Information on intellectual property management

The management of intellectual property and copyrights for a database created on the Web is a controversial subject. In order to help authors and users of teaching and learning resources understand it, the POP Index team has decided to adopt the NORMETIC profile, which proffers standards for the management of intellectual property. Please note that NORMETIC is a LOM standard application profile.

Since the POP Index is a catalogue referencing tools published on pedagogical Web sites, rather than a tool-hosting service, the following rules must be respected:

  1. Users shall be informed of usage costs, rights and restrictions.
  2. The dropdown list of choices must be a privileged option.
  3. The administrator is responsible for explaining in writing all the specifics concerning the management of intellectual property for the referenced tool, and for providing contact coordinates of the tool?s creator.
  4. The author is permitted to require reproduction and usage costs depending on the way the tool is used.
  5. In general, it is up to the author ? and not the POP Index management ? to establish said rights.
